One late summer afternoon, I received a phone call from the architect Rudy Ricciotti. He knew I was in the South of France. He asked me to visit his clients to see the house he had built for them in Bandol. At 10pm I found myself at David and Carole Warren’s, in a house tucked away at the end of a side street. As I passed through the portico, the house gradually revealed itself before my eyes: first a fold of black concrete amazed me, before I arrived at the clear and precise gesture of a 40 metre long triple volume comprising the swimming pool, the living rooms and the rooms that link the rock and the house. The undulating glazing creates a visual magnetism between the interior and exterior life of this almost buried dwelling in a roof garden. The olive trees add to the beauty of the whole. Une fin d’après-midi d’été, je reçois un coup de fil de l’architecte Rudy Ricciotti. Il sait que je suis dans le Sud de la France. Il me demande de passer chez ses clients pour voir la maison qu’il leur a fabriqué à Bandol. Je me retrouve à 22h chez David et Carole Warren dans une maison cachée au fond d’une petite rue. Passé le portique, la maison se dévoile petit-à-petit sous mes yeux : d’abord un pli de béton noir vous émerveille avant d’arriver sur le geste clair et juste d’un triple volume de 40 mètres de long comprenant la piscine, les pièces de vie et les locaux qui font la jonction entre la roche et la maison. Le vitrage ondulé opère un magnétisme visuel entre la vie intérieure et extérieure de cet habitat quasi enterré dans un jardin en toiture. Les oliviers viennent parfaire la beauté de l’ensemble. La vie peut s’égrainer…
