The MARNIX building in the heart of Brussels was erected in 1964 by the American firm SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill). It was extended using the same architectural grammar in 1989 and has become an emblematic building for the European capital, but the task facing Brussels-based A2M today is much more important: to bring the listed building into the 21st century and turn it into an exemplary sustainable renovation project. To achieve this, it is focusing its work on 4 pillars: transparency, employee well-being, innovation and art. On completion of the work, ING Bank’s new headquarters will not only be Passive House, BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum and CO₂ neutral, it will also provide another answer: is it possible not only to limit the building’s impact on the environment, but also to go so far as to regenerate it?

La bâtiment MARNIX au cœur de Bruxelles a été érigé en 1964 par le bureau américain SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill). Il fut agrandi avec la même grammaire architecturale en 1989 et est devenu un bâtiment emblématique pour la Capitale européenne mais la tâche qui attend, aujourd’hui, le bureau bruxellois A2M est bien plus important : faire entrer le bâtiment classé dans le 21ème siècle et en faire un projet exemplaire de rénovation durable. Pour ce faire, il axe son travail sur 4 piliers : la transparence, le bien-être des employés, l’innovation et l’art. Au terme des travaux, le nouveau siège de la banque ING ne sera pas seulement Passive House, BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum et CO₂ neutre, Il apportera également une autre réponse : est-il possible non seulement de limiter l’impact du bâtiment sur l’environnement, mais aussi d’aller jusqu’à le régénérer ?
