PARC PIERRE PAULUS, Brussels – Belgium

The Parc Pierre Paulus was originally two independent gardens, one belonging to the Pelgrims house and the other to a convent.

The English garden of the Pelgrims house had a theatrical organisation, a sort of décor composed of false rockeries, fountains and water features. Then the convent garden was dramatically opened up by the construction of the metro and transformed into a large lawn, semi-connected with the Ecole Nouvelle that replaced the convent. Ledroit Pierret Polet Architectes and Pigeon Ochej Paysage have reconnected all the pieces of the jigsaw with the school, the space for senior citizens and the bowling green to create a genuine urban park for recreation, relaxation and contemplation.

With the renovation of the bowling green, the creation of new play areas and the redevelopment of the pond, the project will promote social cohesion by bringing together a wide range of activities and generations. In addition, the renovation work on the Pelgrims garden, listed in 1997, has been carried out with the greatest respect for its original character.

Le Parc Pierre Paulus est à l’origine deux jardins indépendants, l’un propriété de la maison Pelgrims et l’autre d’un couvent. 

Le jardin anglais de la maison Pelgrims avait une organisation théâtrale, une sorte de décor composé de fausses rocailles, de fontaines, de plans d’eau. Et puis, le jardin du couvent fut dramatiquement ouvert par le percement du métro et transformé en une grande pelouse semi-connectée avec l’école Nouvelle qui a remplacé le couvent. Les bureaux Ledroit Pierret Polet Architectes et Pigeon Ochej Paysage ont reconnecté l’ensemble des pièces du puzzle avec l’école, avec l’espace pour les personnes du troisième âge et avec le boulodrome pour créer un véritable parc urbain aux usages récréatifs, mais aussi de délassements et de contemplations.

Avec la rénovation du boulodrome, la création de nouveaux espaces de jeux et le réaménagement de l’étang, le projet favorise la cohésion sociale en réunissant des activités et générations très diverses. En outre, les travaux de rénovation du jardin Pelgrims, classé en 1997, ont été réalisés dans le plus grand respect de son caractère originel.
